About me

As a skilled and certified hair braider from the beautiful country of Senegal, West Africa, I proudly come from the Fulani (Peulh) tribe — a people known for their elegance, artistry, and deep cultural heritage.

Both entrepreneurship and braiding are in my blood. 

As the owner of Tafari Hair Magic, I bring a unique blend of creativity, passion, cultural depth, and technical expertise to every style I create. I love crafting beautiful, culturally inspired looks, and with my commitment to continuous learning, I aim to provide exceptional service and positive vibes.

Growing up, I was judged for having “too much hair.” Thick, afro hair is still seen negatively in many communities. The hurt and frustration deeply affected my mental health and the way I saw myself. But with the encouragement of my grandmother, I learned how to care for my own hair and eventually decided to loc my hair and begin my loc journey.

There was resistance from family and societal stigma, but today I proudly wear my locs as a symbol of who I am.

As a caretaker for my sister who has autism, I practiced braiding and was able to hone my skills by doing her hair. The compliments and acknowledgment from people who admired her hairstyles gave me a much-needed dose of positivity and boosted my confidence.

I want us to love our hair and ourselves. This is why I get so much joy braiding and watching the reactions of happy customers.

Why I chose the name Tafari

Tafari is an ancient East African name that means “the revered one,” “one who inspires respect,” or “one who is set apart.”

I chose this name because it reflects strength, dignity, royalty, and spiritual depth — qualities that I want every client to feel when they sit in my chair.

To me, Tafari represents African pride, ancestral beauty, and sacred identity, and I create each braid with that same intention and respect.
